Argentario Golf Club Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

    February 16, 2026

Argentario Golf Club, located in an unspoiled corner of south west Tuscany, this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, a milestone that reflects two decades of uncompromising vision, commitment to sustainability and the attainment of international recognition. The Club officially opened its championship course on June 2, 2006, unveiling an 18-hole layout set within one of Italy’s most breathtaking natural landscapes, thanks to the long-term inspiration and vision of its owner, Augusto Orsini.

A resident of nearby Rome in his youth, Orsini spent holidays on Monte Argentario as a child which inspired him as an adult to create a golfing destination that encompassed sport, health and wellness in a natural environment in the most eco-friendly way possible.

From the very beginning, the Club established itself as a leader in environmental stewardship and quickly secured the BioAgriCert certification and joined the “Impegnati nel Verde” (Committed to Green) programme, adopting fully eco-compatible maintenance practices as it has done ever since. Very soon Argentario was chosen to serve as the stage for a number of prestigious tournaments, including the Ladies Italian Open and the National Open Championship in 2008, the 2022 Senior Italian Open and the 2024 Italian Challenge Open.

Most notably, it was also honoured to be the venue for the 82nd Italian Open in June 2025 on the DP World Tour when it welcomed a host of international professional players from all over the globe. Historically it was Frenchman, Adrien Saddier, who clinched his maiden title playing his 200th tournament on the European Tour with a two-shot victory.

Another pivotal achievement for the golf club occurred in March 2019 when The PGA selected Argentario Golf Club as the PGA National Golf Course Italy — the only facility in the country to hold this esteemed title. That same year saw the inauguration of the new Club House, the social heart of the Resort, featuring a reception, restaurant, bar and pro shop, all opening onto a panoramic terrace overlooking the course and the picturesque Orbetello Lagoon.

In 2023, the Club further expanded its global footprint by joining the Marriott Golf Hotel Reciprocal Programme. This partnership grants members exclusive access and benefits at approximately 30 affiliated courses worldwide when staying at designated Marriott properties. Throughout its 20-year history, Argentario has welcomed legends of the game and iconic golfers including Gary Player, Paul McGinley, Jos? Mar?a Olaz?bal, Matteo Manassero, and Emanuele Canonica. It has also hosted high-profile events for global brands such as Mercedes, Brunello Cucinelli, Valentino and Moncler.

“Argentario has indeed come a very long way from a little dream created in my mind to where it is today — one of the top golfing destinations in Italy, curated on environmental principles, always vying to improve the offering and ensuring that the standard of our championship golf course and its facilities rise year on year,” comments Orsini.

“Ultimately our goal is to continue growing Argentario Golf Club as an international point of reference where sport, sustainability and hospitality coexist in harmony and balance.

“As we contemplate the next 20 years, we are eager to see how much more we can accomplish and, in the meantime, we look forward to welcoming golfers from around the world to enjoy what we have created so far,” he concludes.
